Quickstep
The Quickstep is an elegant and playful dance combining the smooth elements of Foxtrot with the rapid-fire footwork of the One-step, Shag, Charleston, and Peabody. Although it evolved initially from a “faster” Foxtrot, the Quickstep is now quite distinctive and has the fastest tempo of the ballroom dances. You can still hear the ragtime era jazz style in Quickstep music.
This dance is characterized by energetic and light movement across the dance floor with hops, runs, rotation, and syncopated footwork.
Common figures include the forward and backward lock step, the chasse, and the quarter turn.
